About Me
Bio
I am a UK trained GP. I emigrated to Australia in 2014
Around that time I started blogging. My very first post was picked up by Pulse in UK and published as an open letter to the UK Health Minister and garnered some traffic.
At that time I was raging against the NHS and writing about it was kind of therapeutic.
After I arrived in Australia, I started blogging about my transition to life as an Independent Contractor Down Under.
I will add my old blogs under an archive section at some point. The platform I used at the time (blogger, owned by google) has since shut down.
The transition to life Down Under for me was pleasurable. At that time a lot of UK trained GPs were making the move and I could see that there was considerable angst amongst my peers around issues of emigration, earnings, lifestyle, racism, job security and frankly the lack of security and uniformity the NHS provided. My second post in Pulse published in 2015 was already talking about some of these issues
The biggest loophole in the whole system is how GPs contract with Surgeries and how many GPs having made the journey half way round the world suddenly found themselves working in dodgy practices with absolutely no safety net. As IMGs and often on working visas (457 at the time), many found themselves between the proverbial rock and a hard place.
This was the genesis of the The FaceBook group The Australian GP Job Portal.
I have always felt that knowledge empowers and rather like mercy,
It is twice blest:
It blesseth him that gives
and him that takes
